About the Artist

Rebecca Stafford

I always knew I had a natural ability to draw.  It wasn’t until after a career in mortgage lending that I was able to leave the business world and follow my dream of becoming a full time artist.  Since then, I have taken numerous workshops and classes along with studying under world renowned artists and instructors.  I am a former co-owner and instructor of an art gallery and fine art studio in Lansing, MI.  Currently I am an active member of several online art programs along with being a member of GVA and Mid-Michigan Art Guild.  I am the Vice Chairman of a local non profit creative learning center and gallery where I offer weekly classes and workshops.

My first love is portraiture,  and am honored to be commissioned to paint children, husband, wives, Grand parents, and even deceased loved ones. I am currently working on an oil painting of a former judge in my county. To me it’s more than a portrait and I try to capture of the soul of each and every person.

In the spring I love to plein air paint (outside on location) landscapes of beautiful Michigan scenes. In the winter months I tend to gravitate to still life paintings where I frequent local antique stores in search of various pots, vases and other wonderful pieces that meld perfectly with fruit, vegetables and sprigs of leaves or blossoms.  I love calling these my plein air still life paintings because they are painted from life in my studio.
